FAQ

Product Overview

A truss boom transforms a skid steer into a mobile lifting platform for tasks that would otherwise require a crane, telehandler, or a crew on ladders. The attachment telescopes from a compact transport length to a fully extended reach approaching 8 meters, enabling the operator to lift roof trusses, position wall framing, hang signage, place HVAC units, and handle overhead materials that are beyond the loader arms' natural reach. A hydraulic cylinder controls telescopic extension from the cab, while the skid steer's loader arms manage boom angle and lift height. The boom head features a lifting hook or shackle point for attaching slings, chains, or custom lifting fixtures.

The TG-HLJ400 is rated at 385 kg safe working load and extends from 3400 mm to 7950 mm, covering the reach requirements for residential and light commercial construction. The boom uses a telescopic box-section design with internal wear pads for smooth extension and retraction, and mounts via the standard MP1140 universal quick-attach plate. Hydraulic requirements are 16 MPa operating pressure at 60 L/min flow — standard on most mid-size and large-frame skid steers. At 358 kg, the attachment is light enough for mid-size machines while maintaining structural rigidity for stable lifting at full extension.

Safe working load (SWL) is rated for static lifting at full extension. Dynamic loads, swinging, side loading and wind forces reduce effective capacity — operate well below the SWL rating for normal operation and refer to the lifting chart for load limits at each extension. Always confirm load weight and lift radius before lifting. MP1140 universal mount fits mid-size and large-frame skid steers with 60 L/min auxiliary flow at 16 MPa.

TGEC Skid Steer Hydraulic Truss Boom Attachment – telescopic lifting boom

Key Features

Hydraulic Telescopic Extension

A hydraulic cylinder extends and retracts the inner boom section from 3400 mm to 7950 mm, controlled directly from the operator's seat. The telescopic design delivers a compact transport length (2735 mm retracted) while providing nearly 8 meters of reach when fully extended — enough to set trusses on single-story and most two-story residential structures. Internal wear pads between the telescoping sections ensure smooth, rattle-free extension and prevent metal-to-metal contact that would accelerate wear.

385 kg Safe Working Load

The boom is rated at 385 kg SWL at full extension, covering the weight of most residential roof trusses, wall panels, signage bundles and light HVAC units. The box-section boom structure is engineered for rigidity at full extension, minimizing deflection and sway during lifting. The SWL rating accounts for the load moment at maximum extension — the most stress-intensive position. For loads approaching the rating, reduce extension or use a machine with higher rated operating capacity.

Universal MP1140 Mounting

The standard MP1140 quick-attach plate fits Bobcat, Case, Caterpillar, John Deere, New Holland, Kubota, Gehl, Mustang, Takeuchi, ASV and most other mid-size and large-frame skid steer and compact track loader brands. The universal mount allows the truss boom to be swapped between machines in a fleet without adapter plates. The mounting frame is reinforced at the boom pivot to transfer lifting forces directly into the machine's loader arms.

Cab-Controlled Boom Operation

All boom functions — telescopic extension and retraction — are controlled from the operator's seat using the skid steer's auxiliary hydraulic controls. The loader arms control boom angle and lift height, while the auxiliary circuit controls extension. This single-operator design eliminates the need for a ground crew to manually position or extend the boom, improving jobsite efficiency and safety. A hydraulic lock valve holds the boom extension in position when the control is released, preventing unintended drift during lifting.

How It Works

The truss boom mounts to the skid steer's quick-attach carriage and connects to the auxiliary hydraulic circuit. The operator approaches the load, extends or retracts the boom to the desired reach using the auxiliary control, and attaches the load to the lifting hook or shackle at the boom head using slings or chains. Raising the loader arms lifts the boom and load, while tilting the arms adjusts the boom angle. The operator drives the skid steer to the placement location, positions the load using a combination of arm height, arm tilt and boom extension, then lowers the load into place. The telescopic function allows the operator to reach over obstacles, extend beyond the machine's footprint, and retract for transport. The hydraulic lock valve holds extension position during lifting, and the box-section boom structure maintains rigidity at full reach for stable, controlled placement.

Compatibility

The TGEC truss boom works with all major skid steer and compact track loader brands featuring the MP1140 universal quick-attach plate, including Bobcat, Case, Caterpillar, John Deere, New Holland, Kubota, Gehl, Mustang, Takeuchi, and ASV. The attachment requires 60 L/min auxiliary hydraulic flow at 16 MPa — standard on most mid-size and large-frame skid steers. At 358 kg attachment weight plus the lifted load, ensure the machine's rated operating capacity is sufficient for stable operation, especially when lifting at full extension — refer to the machine's load chart and the boom's lifting chart for specific limits. Compact track loaders (CTLs) are well suited to truss boom operation due to better stability, lower ground pressure and reduced risk of tipping on uneven terrain. Custom mounting brackets for tractor front-end loaders, backhoe loaders and other carriers are available on request — provide your machine make, model and pin dimensions for a direct-fit quote.

Wear Parts & Service Support

Replacement components are stocked for the truss boom: telescopic extension cylinder and seal kits, internal boom wear pads, boom head lifting hook and shackle, hydraulic hoses with flat-faced couplers, hydraulic lock valve, pivot pins and bushings, and mounting plate hardware. All wear parts are manufactured to OEM specifications for a precise fit. Standard parts ship within 5 business days. Internal wear pads should be inspected every 100 hours and replaced when clearance exceeds the manufacturer's specification — excessive wear between telescoping sections causes boom play and accelerated structural wear. For dealers and fleet operators, we recommend ordering a basic parts kit with each boom — one set of wear pads, one hydraulic hose set, and one cylinder seal kit — to minimize customer downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far can the truss boom extend?+

The TG-HLJ400 telescopes from 3400 mm retracted to 7950 mm fully extended — a 4550 mm range. Retracted transport dimensions are 2735 × 1156 × 2646 mm, compact enough for trailering and tight jobsites. At full extension the boom reaches most single-story and two-story rooflines and can extend over obstacles beyond the loader arms' natural reach. Extension is hydraulically controlled from the cab with a lock valve to hold any position.

What is the safe working load and how is it rated?+

The TG-HLJ400 is rated at 385 kg SWL at full extension under static, controlled conditions. The rating accounts for load moment at maximum extension — the highest-stress position. Dynamic factors (machine movement, load swinging, wind on large flat loads, turning and stopping) increase effective load beyond static weight, so operate well below the rating and refer to the lifting chart for limits at each extension. Always confirm actual load weight before lifting, especially with trusses and wall panels. Never side-load the boom.

Will this truss boom fit my Bobcat, Caterpillar or John Deere skid steer?+

Yes — the TG-HLJ400 uses the MP1140 universal quick-attach plate, compatible with Bobcat, Case, Caterpillar, John Deere, New Holland, Kubota, Gehl, Mustang, Takeuchi, ASV and most other mid-size and large-frame skid steer and compact track loader brands. The MP1140 quick-attach interface is widely used on skid steers and CTLs in this machine class. Verify your machine's auxiliary flow meets 60 L/min at 16 MPa — standard on most mid-size and large-frame models. The attachment weighs 358 kg; ensure your machine's ROC is sufficient for stable lifting at full extension. Custom brackets available for machines with proprietary couplers — provide make, model and pin dimensions.

Can a truss boom be used on a compact track loader (CTL)?+

Yes — CTLs are well suited to truss boom operation. The longer track base provides better stability when lifting at full extension, and lower ground pressure reduces disturbance on finished surfaces, grass and soft terrain. Tracks also offer better traction on muddy, sandy or uneven ground where wheeled skid steers may slip. The MP1140 plate fits both wheeled and tracked machines. Verify your CTL's auxiliary flow meets 60 L/min and that its ROC is sufficient for stable lifting at full extension, with tracks wide enough for the jobsite terrain.

What maintenance does a truss boom require?+

Daily: inspect hydraulic hoses for leaks, cuts or abrasion; check the lifting hook and shackle for wear or deformation; verify all mounting bolts are tight; test extension and retraction before use. Every 25 hours: grease all pivot points with high-temperature extreme-pressure grease; inspect the cylinder rod for scoring; verify the hydraulic lock valve holds position (no drift). Every 100 hours: replace hydraulic hoses, retorque all body and mounting bolts, inspect internal wear pads for excessive clearance — noticeable play means pads need replacement. Every 500 hours or annually: replace worn pivot pins and bushings, inspect and replace cylinder seals if leaking, replace hook and shackle if deformed. Always use high-temp EP grease on pivot points.

Can the truss boom lift a person for work at height?+

No — the truss boom is designed for material lifting only, not personnel. The boom head has a lifting hook for slings and chains, not a personnel platform or man basket. Lifting a person on this attachment (for example, standing in a sling or on an improvised platform) is dangerous and violates occupational safety regulations in most jurisdictions. The boom lacks fall arrest attachment points, guardrails, emergency lowering and a load-rated personnel platform. For work at height, use a dedicated aerial work platform, a crane-rated man basket, or scaffolding. Never attempt to lift a person with this attachment.

How does a truss boom compare to a telehandler for truss installation?+

A telehandler has a telescopic boom with forks, lifts heavier loads (typically 2,000–5,000+ kg), reaches higher (6–18+ m), and is standard for large commercial construction and heavy material handling. A skid steer truss boom attaches to a machine the contractor already owns, extends to 7.95 m, lifts 385 kg, and is suited for residential construction, small commercial jobs and signage installation. It is more maneuverable in tight spaces, and the same machine can use other attachments (auger, bucket, forks) when the boom is not in use. Telehandlers generally provide higher lifting capacity and greater reach, while a skid steer truss boom offers a compact, attachment-based lifting solution. Many contractors run both.

Do you offer OEM/private labeling for truss booms?+

Yes. TGEC provides full OEM and private-label services for equipment dealers and contractors worldwide: custom paint colors (RAL matching), branded nameplates with your model numbers, custom packaging, and branded manuals and marketing materials. Minimum order for custom branding is 5 units. Custom configurations — non-standard extension lengths, alternative SWL ratings, special boom head designs, upgraded hydraulic components, custom mounting brackets — are available for volume orders. Mixed container orders are encouraged: combine truss booms with pole setters, post drivers, augers and other skid steer attachments in a single 40ft container to reduce per-unit freight. Contact our OEM sales team with expected annual volume and specifications for dealer pricing and territory availability.

What's the warranty on TGEC truss booms?+

TGEC provides a 12-month warranty on all truss booms covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship — including the boom structure, telescopic sections, MP1140 mounting bracket, hydraulic cylinder and hydraulic lock valve. Wear items (internal wear pads, pivot pins, bushings, hydraulic hoses, seals, lifting hook and shackle) are excluded as expected consumables. Extended 24- and 36-month warranties are available for volume orders and dealer partners. Claims are processed via photo and video evaluation — send images of the defect, the attachment serial number and purchase details, and replacement parts ship within 5 business days. You do not need to ship the entire 358 kg attachment back. Damage from overloading, side loading, improper use or lack of maintenance is not covered.

Can the truss boom be used for dragging or pulling loads?+

No — the truss boom is designed for vertical lifting only, not dragging, pulling or horizontal loading. The boom structure, telescopic sections and pivot points are engineered for vertical load forces. Applying horizontal forces (dragging a load along the ground, pulling an object, or using the boom as a pry bar) creates side loads and bending moments the boom was not designed to handle, and can cause permanent bending of telescopic sections, damage to wear pads, cylinder rod bending, or structural failure at the pivot. For dragging or pulling, use a bucket, rake, tow bar, or winch attachment designed for horizontal forces. Side loading and horizontal forces are the leading cause of truss boom damage and are not covered under warranty.
