Product Overview
The TGEC stump shear cuts stumps into sections rather than grinding them into chips. Cut sections can be piled, hauled away, or processed through a chipper. The shear mounts on the excavator boom, runs off the auxiliary circuit, and is controlled from the cab. Four models – TG‑SS01 through TG‑SS04 – cover 5–40 ton excavators, with jaw openings from 420–750 mm, attachment weights from 420–1350 kg, and working pressures from 180–350 bar. Hardened steel jaws with serrated grips hold material during the cut. Common applications include land clearing, right‑of‑way maintenance, storm cleanup, and commercial site prep. Shear Mechanism and Jaw Design
A hydraulic cylinder drives a movable jaw against a fixed anvil jaw, creating a scissor‑like cutting action. Pivot points use hardened, greasable pins and bushings. The fixed anvil provides support during the cut, while the movable jaw has a replaceable cutting edge. Serrated surfaces prevent the stump from slipping during cutting. The body is heavy‑duty steel with reinforced stress points, and cylinder guards and protected hose routing add durability.

Application Matching by Size
Small to Mid‑Size (5–18 t)
The TG‑SS01 (420 mm opening, 420 kg) and TG‑SS02 (520 mm opening, 680 kg) fit 5–18 ton excavators. Their lower attachment weights are suited to the smaller excavator classes in this range. Their specified working-pressure ranges are 180–220 bar and 200–250 bar respectively. Used for residential clearing, fence lines, and municipal work.
Large Excavators (18–40 t)
The TG‑SS03 (620 mm opening, 950 kg) and TG‑SS04 (750 mm opening, 1350 kg) fit 18–40 ton excavators. Working pressures range from 220 to 350 bar depending on the model. Used for land clearing, highway right‑of‑way maintenance, and storm cleanup. Verify lift capacity on machines at the low end of each range.
Operating Techniques
Position the shear perpendicular to the stump for a clean cut. Clear dirt and rocks from the cutting area to protect the cutting edges. Cut above grade to avoid soil contact. For stumps wider than the jaw opening, make multiple cuts – slice one side, reposition, and continue. Use the serrated jaws to grip and move cut pieces, but avoid prying sideways. Do not close the jaws empty. Apply steady hydraulic pressure rather than slamming the jaws.
Installation and Mounting
A custom bracket matches your excavator's pin spacing and stick width – provide make, model, pin dimensions, and hydraulic specs when ordering. Quick‑coupler versions available. Install by pinning the bracket in place of the bucket, connect pressure and return hoses, route them with slack, and secure them. Before first use, set auxiliary pressure within the model's specified range (180–350 bar depending on model), grease pivot pins, and inspect cutting edges and connections.
Maintenance and Wear Parts
Cutting edges are the primary wear item – inspect daily and sharpen or replace when dull. Bolt‑on or weld‑on edges make replacement straightforward. Grease pivot pins every 8‑16 hours. Check the cylinder rod, hoses, and guards for damage. Inspect jaw arms and the body for cracks, especially around pivot points – have structural damage repaired by a qualified professional.
