Product Overview

This vertically oriented disc grinder is purpose‑built for mini excavators and confined sites where a drum‑style grinder may have difficulty accessing. It spins a carbide‑toothed disc at 800‑1300 RPM, working from the top down with a narrow footprint suited to backyards, fence lines, and foundation perimeters. Weighing only 180‑192 kg, it pairs well with 1.5‑ton machines and is suited for residential tree work and light municipal or utility maintenance where compact access is required. Two models – TG‑DSG360 and TG‑DSG450 – cover 1.5–7 ton excavators, with disc diameters of 360 and 470 mm, effective cutting diameters of 445 and 545 mm, and max cutting depths of 135 and 190 mm. Hydraulic flow requirements range from 30 to 70 L/min, depending on the model and the excavator auxiliary circuit. The attachment runs off the carrier's auxiliary hydraulics, so the same carrier can be used for stump grinding and other compatible site-work tasks.

Disc Grinding System and Design

A high‑speed hydraulic motor spins the disc at 800‑1300 RPM, delivering effective surface speed for carbide tooth cutting. The motor mounts via a heavy flange with a mechanical seal to keep contaminants out, and runs on 30‑70 L/min flows suited to compact carriers. The disc is high‑strength steel with a precision hub; carbide teeth are bolted or welded around the perimeter in a balanced pattern for smooth operation. The shroud contains chips and deflects them downward, protecting the operator and surroundings. Built from heavy‑gauge steel with reinforced wear zones, it holds up to repeated use. The vertical, slender profile can access areas that may be difficult to reach with a drum-style grinder, and the relatively low operating weight is suited to compact excavator applications.

Application Matching by Size

Compact Mini Excavators (1.5–5 t)

The TG‑DSG360 is made for the smallest machines. With a 360 mm disc, 135 mm max cutting depth, and 180 kg weight, it suits confined residential yards, narrow fence lines, and foundation perimeters. The TG‑DSG360 requires 30–50 L/min of auxiliary flow; confirm the carrier's available flow before ordering. The maximum effective cutting diameter is 445 mm. Suitable stump size varies with geometry, wood density, and the grinding approach used; larger stumps can be reduced by working from the edges inward. Ideal for tight residential jobs where machine footprint and transport size are limited.

Mid‑Size Compact Excavators (3–7 t)

The TG‑DSG450 steps up capacity for 3‑7 ton machines: 470 mm disc, 190 mm max cutting depth, 192 kg. Its maximum effective cutting diameter is 545 mm and max cutting depth is 190 mm, providing deeper below-grade removal. Appropriate stump dimensions vary with wood density, stump shape, and grinding method. Flow requirement is 45‑70 L/min, matching common 3‑7 ton auxiliary circuits. Used by site contractors and parks departments that need grading, tree work, and grinding on one carrier. It retains the compact-access advantage of the disc design.

Installation and Mounting

Mounting is straightforward on compact carriers. The grinder replaces the bucket via a custom bracket built to your excavator's pin spacing, pin diameter, and stick width — on mini excavators, the compact bracket keeps the attachment close to the stick for better stability. At order, share your excavator make and model, pin dimensions, and available auxiliary flow and pressure. Quick‑coupler options are available. Pin the bracket, connect hoses (pressure, return, and case drain if required) to the auxiliary circuit, and route with enough slack for full boom articulation — on compact machines, hose clearance along the stick is particularly important. Before first use, set auxiliary flow to the specified range (30‑50 L/min for TG‑DSG360; 45‑70 L/min for TG‑DSG450), verify disc rotation direction, grease bearings, inspect teeth, and spin the disc by hand to confirm free movement and balance.

Maintenance and Wear Parts

Carbide teeth are the main wear item — inspect daily and replace any chipped, worn, or missing. Because the disc runs at 800‑1300 RPM, a missing or broken tooth causes imbalance and vibration, so replace before continuing operation. Bolted or welded holders allow easy field replacement. Grease disc bearings every 8‑16 hours. Check motor shaft seal, hoses, and housing for damage. Inspect the disc hub and frame for cracks, especially near the disc opening — have structural issues repaired by a qualified fabricator. Replace hoses at signs of abrasion. Genuine wear parts — teeth, holders, bearings, seals, hoses, and pins — are available from TGEC. Keeping spare teeth and hoses on hand minimizes downtime.

Can the disc stump grinder grind large stumps?+

The TG-DSG360 has a 445 mm maximum effective cutting diameter and the TG-DSG450 has 545 mm. Whether a given stump fits within a single pass depends on its shape, density, site access, and the grinding technique. Larger stumps can be reduced by working from the outer edges inward until the full disc engages. This edge-grinding method allows the disc to handle stumps wider than the cutting diameter, though it takes more time. For high-volume work on large hardwood stumps, the drum-style excavator stump grinder with 400–850 mm cutting diameters and 590–900 mm depth is more productive. The disc grinder is optimized for small-to-medium stumps where compact access and maneuverability are priorities.

What safety precautions are needed when operating a disc stump grinder?+

The main hazard is flying wood chips and debris. Keep all personnel outside the debris flight zone before starting the disc, and ensure cab glass is intact. Wear safety glasses or a face shield, hearing protection, hard hat, and steel-toe boots. The shroud contains most debris, but chips can escape from the front and bottom, especially when grinding at stump edges or in rocky soil. Inspect hydraulic hoses before each use and never touch the disc, motor, or hoses while pressurized. Position the excavator on stable, level ground and check for overhead utilities and underground services. On mini excavators, verify lift capacity at working reach. Operate within manufacturer specifications to minimize risk.

Do you offer OEM or private-label disc stump grinders?+

Yes. TGEC offers OEM and private-label disc stump grinders for dealers and rental companies serving the compact-equipment market. We can build under your brand with custom colors, logo placement, and operator documentation. Because the line targets 1.5–7 ton mini excavators, we can develop mounting brackets for the compact carrier models common in your region, and supply private-label wear parts — carbide teeth, tooth holders, bearings, and seals — for after-sales support. Contact our OEM team with your market and volume details.

How does the disc grinder compare with a walk-behind stump grinder?+

An excavator-mounted disc grinder uses the carrier's hydraulic system, boom reach, and cab positioning — the operator grinds from the seat without manual handling. This is advantageous on slopes, in confined yards, and where the excavator is already on site for digging or grading. A walk-behind grinder is self-contained and works independently of an excavator, with a larger wheel and deeper cut for high-volume routes, but it requires physical maneuvering and may not suit steep or tight sites. For operators who already run mini excavators, the disc attachment increases equipment utilization and avoids transporting a second machine.
