Product Overview

This hydraulic jaw-style puller grips and extracts trees, shrubs, fence posts and T-posts. The hardened steel jaws close around the trunk or post, then the skid steer lift arms supply the upward force to pull the root ball or post out of the ground.

Two frame widths are available for different mounting configurations: 930 mm and 1240 mm. Both models have a 300 mm maximum jaw opening, 24 mm tooth thickness and universal quick-attach mounting. As part of the TGEC skid steer tree puller attachments line, this puller serves contractors, farmers, and land managers. For help matching the right configuration, see our tree puller selection guide.

How It Works

Hydraulic cylinders open and close the jaw assembly. When the jaws close around a trunk or post, hydraulic pressure drives the teeth into the surface and the teeth make contact with the material. The skid steer lift arms then raise the attachment, pulling the root ball or post vertically out of the soil. At the drop location, the operator opens the jaws and releases the extracted material.

Application Scenarios

  • Small tree and sapling removal: extract trees within jaw capacity without cutting or digging, extracting the tree and root ball when ground conditions allow.

  • Fence post removal: pull wood posts, steel T-posts and broken stakes when replacing or relocating fencing lines.

  • Land clearing and lot preparation: remove woody vegetation, small trees and shrub clumps before grading or construction.

  • Fence line maintenance: clear overgrown rows, remove volunteer trees and extract old posts before new fence installation.

  • Farm and ranch vegetation management: clear pasture edges, remove woody encroachment and maintain fence lines around fields.

  • Right-of-way and utility corridor clearing: remove small trees along access roads, pipeline corridors and utility easements.

  • Storm and demolition site cleanup: pull broken posts, uproot damaged trees and clear debris after storms or demolition.

Installation & Mounting

The puller attaches via the universal quick-attach plate. Align the plate with the carrier interface, lock the engagement levers and connect the auxiliary hydraulic hoses. Before operation, verify hydraulic flow and pressure match the attachment requirements, and confirm the quick-attach pins are fully seated. Compatibility should be verified based on the skid steer model and quick-attach interface.

Wear & Service

Primary wear items are the jaw teeth, hydraulic cylinders, pivot pins, bushings and hydraulic hoses. Inspect teeth regularly for wear or cracking and replace them when necessary. Check cylinders and hoses for leaks or abrasion, and inspect pivot pins and bushings for play. Grease all pivot points per the maintenance schedule and keep the quick-attach plate clean. Genuine replacement teeth, pins, bushings and hose kits are available for all TG-TFP models.

OEM & Bulk Supply

TGEC supplies tree and fence post pullers to dealers, distributors and rental companies through OEM and bulk-supply programs. Standard configurations are produced with consistent jaw geometry, tooth thickness and mounting interfaces. For qualified runs, TGEC can review custom requirements such as modified mounting plates, alternative jaw widths, custom tooth profiles and branding. Dealers can combine tree pullers with other TGEC attachments to simplify sourcing and shipping.

Which Frame Width — 930 mm or 1240 mm — Fits Your Skid Steer and Work?

We'll need your skid steer make and model, operating weight, auxiliary hydraulic flow and pressure, and the primary pulling job (trees, posts, or both). Also let us know whether you're leaning toward the 930 mm or 1240 mm frame. With that, we check carrier compatibility, recommend the right jaw setup, and return a factory-direct quote with estimated availability and shipping details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of trees can a skid steer tree and fence post puller remove?+

The puller is intended for small trees, saplings and woody vegetation that fall within the 300 mm jaw opening and the operating limits of the attachment and carrier. Trees with trunks larger than the jaw opening should be cut first or removed with heavier equipment. Root ball size depends on soil conditions, tree species and trunk diameter.

Can this attachment pull fence posts and T-posts?+

Yes. The same jaw assembly grips wood fence posts, steel T-posts and broken post stubs. The hardened teeth maintain contact with the post during extraction. For T-posts, position the jaws low on the post near the ground to maximize leverage. The puller works on posts set in soil, gravel or compacted ground, though posts set in concrete may require additional preparation.

What tree diameter can a tree and post puller handle?+

The maximum jaw opening is 300 mm (11.8 in), so the trunk or post must fit within the available jaw opening. Actual extraction capability also depends on the tree, soil conditions and carrier. Trees near the maximum opening may require partial soil loosening around the root base. Always verify that the carrier has sufficient lift capacity for the combined weight of the attachment, tree and root ball.

How does jaw opening affect tree pulling performance?+

A wider jaw opening allows the puller to encircle larger tree trunks and thicker fence posts, increasing the range of material the attachment can handle. The 300 mm opening allows the jaws to accommodate trees and fence posts within that dimensional range. When the jaws close around a trunk or post, the teeth penetrate the surface to create a secure grip. If the opening is too small for the target, the jaws cannot fully close, reducing grip strength and increasing the risk of slipping during extraction.

What skid steer operating capacity is required?+

The required carrier capacity depends on the attachment model, the material being extracted and ground conditions. The TG-TFP1120 weighs 130 kg, while the TG-TFP1240 weighs 146 kg. The carrier should have sufficient rated operating capacity for the attachment and the expected extraction load.

What auxiliary hydraulic requirements should be checked?+

Verify that the skid steer auxiliary hydraulic system meets the flow and pressure requirements of the attachment. Also confirm that the hydraulic couplers and hoses match the attachment configuration. Insufficient hydraulic flow results in slow jaw movement and reduced clamping force, especially when pulling large trees or posts in compacted soil.

How does the attachment mount to a skid steer?+

The puller uses a universal quick-attach plate. Compatibility should be confirmed based on the carrier model and mounting interface. To mount, align the quick-attach plate with the carrier interface, tilt the attachment forward to engage the lower hooks, then tilt back to seat the upper engagement pins. Lock the engagement levers and connect the auxiliary hydraulic hoses. Always verify that the quick-attach pins are fully engaged and that the hydraulic connections are secure before operating. The MP910 and MP1220 interfaces are compatible with standard universal quick-attach systems.

Can the same puller be used for trees, shrubs, and fence posts?+

Yes. The same jaw assembly can be used for trees, woody shrubs, wood fence posts and steel T-posts within the attachment's operating limits. The operator adjusts jaw position and grip pressure based on the material: for trees, grip low on the trunk near the root flare; for posts, grip as close to the ground as possible. The same 300 mm opening and hardened teeth work across all these materials. This versatility makes the puller suitable for mixed job sites that involve both vegetation removal and fence work.

How should the jaws be positioned around a tree or post?+

Position the tree or post centrally within the jaw opening and ensure consistent contact before extraction. Follow the attachment and carrier manufacturer's operating procedures and applicable site safety requirements.

What factors affect pulling performance in hard or compacted soil?+

Pulling performance depends on soil moisture, compaction, root structure, post depth and carrier capacity. Difficult ground conditions may require appropriate site preparation before extraction. Larger skid steers with higher operating capacity provide more lifting force for difficult extractions.

Which components should be inspected for wear?+

The primary wear components are the jaw teeth, hydraulic cylinders, pivot pins, bushings and hydraulic hoses. Inspect teeth for dullness, cracking or excessive wear that reduces grip. Check cylinder rods for scoring or pitting that can cause seal leaks. Examine pivot pins and bushings for excessive play that indicates wear. Inspect hydraulic hoses for abrasion, cracks, bulges or leaks at fittings. Also check the quick-attach plate for bending or cracking, and verify that engagement pins move freely. replace worn components promptly to prevent failure during operation.

How should the tree and fence post puller be maintained?+

Follow a regular maintenance schedule to keep the puller in safe working condition. Before each use, inspect teeth, pins, bushings, hoses and hydraulic connections for damage or leaks. Grease all pivot points and the quick-attach mechanism according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Keep hydraulic hose couplings clean and capped when not in use to prevent contamination. After use, remove dirt, sap and debris from the jaw assembly and mounting plate. Inspect teeth regularly for wear or cracking and replace them when necessary. Store the attachment indoors or under cover to protect hydraulic components from weather. Genuine replacement parts are available for all TG-TFP models.
