Product Overview
The TGEC Excavator Reciprocating Hedge Cutter uses a sickle-bar blade that moves back and forth at high frequency to deliver clean, precise cuts on hedgerows, shrubs and fine vegetation. Unlike disc-style cutters that use rotating saw blades, the reciprocating sickle bar produces a scissor-like cutting action that leaves a neat, even finish on hedge surfaces. This makes it particularly well suited for formal hedgerow maintenance, shrub shaping and precision vegetation work where cut quality matters.
The attachment mounts to the excavator boom in place of the bucket and draws power from the auxiliary hydraulic circuit. Three models cover the full mini to mid-size excavator range: the TG-CT1 for 2 to 4 ton machines, the TG-CT2 for 3 to 9 ton carriers, and the TG-CT3 for 6 to 15 ton excavators. All three operate at 15 MPa working pressure with flow rates from 30 to 60 L/min, and cut material up to 40 mm in diameter. Within the broader excavator hedge trimmers category, the reciprocating cutter is the precision-oriented complement to the faster disc-style configuration.

How It Works
The reciprocating hedge cutter uses a hydraulic motor to drive a sickle-bar blade back and forth at high frequency through an eccentric crank mechanism. The moving blade shears vegetation against a fixed lower blade, producing a clean scissor-like cut. The excavator boom positions the bar, and the operator adjusts hydraulic flow to control cutting speed. The sickle-bar design produces less vibration and debris than disc cutters, making it suitable for work near buildings and roads. For faster cutting of thicker vegetation, the disc hedge trimmer configuration may be more appropriate.
Application Scenarios
- Formal hedgerow maintenance: Trim and shape formal hedges on commercial properties, housing developments and institutional grounds where a clean, even cut finish is required.
- Shrub and bush management: Cut back overgrown shrubs, bushes and fine vegetation in parks, greenbelts and landscaped areas.
- Orchard and vineyard pruning: Manage hedgerows and vegetation around orchard rows and vineyard posts where precision cutting protects crop plants.
- Roadside and right-of-way trimming: Maintain vegetation along roads, utility corridors and access routes where controlled cutting reduces flyrock and debris.
- Municipal and park maintenance: Trim hedges, bushes and ornamental plantings in public parks, cemeteries and municipal grounds.
- Solar farm and infrastructure vegetation: Manage fine vegetation growth around solar panel arrays and infrastructure sites where precision cutting avoids damage to equipment.
Installation & Mounting
The reciprocating hedge cutter mounts to the excavator boom in place of the bucket, using a custom mounting bracket designed to match your excavator pin spacing, pin diameter and linkage geometry. The auxiliary hydraulic circuit delivers flow to the cutting motor, and the unit is ready for operation after connecting the hydraulic hoses and performing a function check. When ordering, provide the excavator make and model, operating weight, pin-to-pin spacing, pin diameter, stick width, and auxiliary hydraulic flow and pressure. The unit can also be configured for mechanical or hydraulic quick-coupler compatibility.
Wear & Service
Primary wear items are the sickle-bar blade sections, blade guides and hold-down clips, pivot pins, and hydraulic hoses. Inspect blades after each shift for dullness or broken teeth and replace or sharpen as needed. Check blade guides for wear and adjust or replace as needed. Inspect hoses for abrasion or leaks, and grease pivot pins per the maintenance schedule. Genuine replacement parts are available for all models.
Request a Quote
To request a quotation, provide your excavator make and model, operating weight, auxiliary hydraulic flow and pressure, pin-to-pin spacing and pin diameter, coupler type, and the model you are interested in (TG-CT1, TG-CT2 or TG-CT3).
