Product Overview
The TGEC tree shear is built to handle the demands of forestry contractors, land-clearing crews, tree service outfits, and municipal maintenance departments. It's a fast, clean-cutting attachment that handles standing timber, downed logs, and heavy brush. Unlike a chainsaw or a feller-buncher, this shear mounts right to the excavator boom and uses hydraulic force to bite through trunks and limbs in one smooth closing motion—keeping the operator in the cab from start to finish.
The jaw is shaped with a curved blade that puts the cutting force right where it needs to be, delivering clean cuts on green wood, seasoned timber, and brush up to the rated diameter. Most models can be ordered with a grapple jaw, which lets the operator hold onto the tree or log after the cut for controlled placement or loading. You can also choose between a fixed mount or a 360-degree rotating setup—rotation is especially handy when you're working in tight quarters or need to position logs for loading without moving the machine.

Hydraulic Cutting Mechanism
The tree shear runs off a single hydraulic cylinder that drives the moving jaw against the fixed jaw. The cylinder bore is sized to deliver the cutting force each model needs to handle its rated diameter. The curved blade geometry creates a slicing action as the jaw closes—this takes less force than a straight guillotine-style cut, which means cleaner cuts and less strain on the machine. The blades are hardened to stand up to the abrasive nature of wood, bark, and the dirt and grit that often come with it, and they're replaceable when they eventually wear out.
If you go with the grapple jaw option, you get a secondary clamping arm that holds the cut material after shearing. That means you can drop a tree and then move or load it without switching attachments. The rotating option adds a hydraulic rotator that turns the shear a full 360 degrees, so you can approach trees from any angle and position your cuts with precision. Both fixed and rotating models attach through a custom bracket that matches your excavator's pin dimensions, with pin-on or quick-coupler options available.

Application Scenarios
Forestry and tree felling: Cut standing trees up to the rated diameter, with the grapple option holding the trunk after cutting for controlled felling direction.
Land clearing and right-of-way maintenance: Remove trees, brush and woody vegetation along utility corridors, roadways and property boundaries.
Timber processing and log handling: Cut fallen logs into manageable lengths and move or load them with the grapple jaw configuration.
Municipal and park maintenance: Trim overhanging branches, remove hazard trees and process woody debris in parks, greenbelts and public spaces.
Installation and Mounting
The tree shear goes on through a custom bracket that's made to match your specific excavator make, model, and pin dimensions. We offer both pin-on and quick-coupler setups. For hydraulics, you'll need supply and return lines for the cutting cylinder, plus an extra circuit if you're adding rotation or a grapple. Before your first cut, double-check that your auxiliary flow and pressure are within the spec for your model, and grease all the pivot points. Maintenance and Wear Parts
The cutting blade takes the most abuse—check it regularly for dullness, chips, or cracks. A dull blade not only needs more hydraulic force to cut, it also leads to splintering and rough cuts. Replacement blades are available and can be swapped out by a qualified tech. Pivot pins and bushings need regular greasing and periodic inspection for wear, especially on the grapple and rotation mechanisms. Keep an eye on the hydraulic cylinder rod, seals, and hoses for leaks or damage, and make sure the rod guards are in place when you're working in heavy brush.
